Privacy at Knotwake

Last updated: 28 September 2026

Knotwake is a free game at knotwake.com. This notice explains what information is used when you play and how you can contact us about it.

Who is responsible for your information?

Marcus Petersson is responsible for Knotwake and for the personal data used in the game. You can always contact us at nomarcus@hotmail.com.

What information is stored?

If you create an account, we store your email address, information needed to sign you in, and your progress in the game. Your eight-digit code is stored as a protected hash, not as readable text. Login sessions allow you to stay signed in.

The game also stores information about rounds, results, times, and activity. If you play without an account, rounds may still belong to the same game chain. A game chain does not necessarily represent one unique person.

If you send feedback, we store what you write, when you sent it, and where you were in the game. Feedback is stored without a separate field for your name, email address, or account. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in the feedback text.

If you turn on the daily reminder, we store the push address your browser gives us for notifications (a technical URL and two encryption keys) and which day we last sent a reminder. It contains no name, email address or account, and it is used only to send the daily "new course" reminder. You can turn it off in the game at any time, or block notifications in your browser; the address is then deleted.

The game uses storage in your browser for features such as login and game progress. Technical information may also appear in operational and security logs held by the services that run the game.

Why is this information used?

Account information and game data allow you to sign in, continue playing, and see your progress. This processing is necessary to provide the account features you choose to use.

We use game statistics and feedback that you choose to send to find problems and improve the game. AI helps analyse feedback and how the game is used. Our legitimate interest in running, protecting, and improving the game is the basis for this processing.

Who processes the information?

Besides the person running Knotwake, providers of website hosting, database services, and AI analysis may process information when needed to operate and improve the game. Feedback you send may be processed by AI providers as part of that analysis.

How long is the information kept?

Account information and progress are kept while your account exists and the information is needed so you can continue playing. Feedback and game data are used for as long as they are needed to run, review, and improve the game. Knotwake currently has no fixed automatic deletion period for this information. You can request deletion as described below.

Delete your account and data

You can always email nomarcus@hotmail.com to request deletion of your account and information that can be linked to you. Include the email address you use for your account. We may need to verify that the account is yours before deleting or disclosing information.

If your account is deleted, you will lose access to the progress linked to it. Game data that can no longer be linked to you, such as an anonymous game chain, may remain. You will need to clear information stored only in your own browser yourself; we can help you with instructions.

Your rights

You can contact us at nomarcus@hotmail.com to ask what personal data we hold about you, request a correction or deletion, or object to certain processing. You may also have the right to receive a copy of your data. If you believe your personal data has been handled incorrectly, you can lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

Changes

If we change how Knotwake uses personal data, we will update this notice. We will also inform players in the game about significant changes.
